Tips: Having your preferred Windows Explorer view

Windows Explorer Preference Setting

It is a major irritant when Windows Explorer throws the default view every time a new folder is open instead of your preferred view. For example, I prefer to have the detailed view of the folder with details (or attribute column) like file name, size type and date modified. So for each new folder I have to change the settings.

How to ensure that Windows Explorer remembers your preference and display all folders that way?

  • Open up Windows Explorer and go to any folder.
  • Go to View and select the view type (Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List, Details).
  • Do other setting. For example for Details view type you can choose the attribute columns, their order etc.
  • Go to Tools, Folder Options, select View and click Apply to All Folders.

Done. Next time you open any folder, Windows Explorer will display the contents according to your preferences.
